Carol Le, MD
Dr. Le grew up in southern California. Her parents were Vietnamese refugees and she grew up in a house with her sister and brother, cousin and four half-siblings. There were eight kids in her household, and her inspiration of caring for others from a family perspective really started in that small home. Board Certified in Internal Medicine, Dr. Le went to high school in Davis, CA and received her degree in Molecular Biology from the University of California, Davis, and received her MD at the Medical College of Wisconsin. She completed her residency at Shands Hospital, and then spent four years at Baptist Medical Center.
“I really believe it was fate that brought me to Dr. Ozdemir,” she said with a smile. “Our philosophies are very similar. It took me only one meeting to convince me to come here. What Dr. O is doing is unique to Jacksonville, but almost the norm in the western part of the country. In Phoenix or California, it is hard not to find an integrative practice. Here, we are the only one. I feel like I am home, and the opportunity to help Dr. O build this practice and help Jacksonville understand this concept is truly wonderful.”
The ability to have a doctor on staff that can treat adults as well as kids allows PAJ to see the entire patient environment, what Dr. Ozdemir refers to as a patient’s “medical network.” The doctors, nurses, nurse practitioners, nutritionists, social workers that are all on staff at PAJ, can now see the entire family unit which allows them to come up with a truly customized patient plan. Everyone, including the patient, can now be on the same page, which makes for better communication and a better understanding not just of the illness, but of the treatment. Said Dr. O, “We are now able to see all the key factors and the whole picture. So we can teach the entire family how to live a healthy lifestyle and prevent disease before it starts. The best doctors are the ones that treat diseases before they start. By connecting the mind, body and spirit with functional medicine, we can shift away from a steady diet of pills and medicines. We can shift to nutrition, botanicals, stress management and environment – all of which is healthier and less expensive for a patient. We call it aggressive prevention.”
